Thank you hmellon! It was a little bit nerve wracking getting close for a shot, though I was careful. There is a discrepancy as to how potent the sting is. Some reports say the sting is not bad, and others say this jellyfish is fairly dangerous. Perhaps the discrepancy lies in the fact that a fully grown one, with a bell diameter of 2 feet, can have tentacles 20 feet long, and the nematocysts will fire weather the jellyfish is alive or disintegrated in a bad storm! The locals know to never swim here for several days after a storm blows through. A lesson my husband and I learned the hard way the first time we came here!
