We spotted no fewer than 20 Tree Swallows on the outskirts of Iona Beach Regional Park today. Some, like this handsome fellow purposely flew over and roosted on the wire fence in front of the inner ponds for 10-15 minutes. He was intensely curious about the birders/shutterbugs--enough to forgo the search for insects. With the warm un-winter-like weather, these accomplished aerialists are almost three weeks ahead of their scheduled arrival in Vancouver.
