Hooded Merganser Courtship Display

The things dome guys will do to get a date! Two Hooded Merganser males vie for the affections of this female with their frog-like calls, raised crests, and elaborate neck displays. Courtship went on for about a minute. With their secretive natures, I hardly expected to encounter another flock of Hooded Mergansers (we saw 4 females and 2 males!) so soon, and in such close proximity to ourselves. Being a witness to their courtship rituals was the icing on the cake.
