On October 3/4, I hiked up to a Abbot Pass Hut, which is the second highest permanent structure in Canada, sitting at 9,598'. It was built in 1922 and straddles the Continental Divide, making it half in Alberta and half in British Columbia. After a 3,000' accent, we patiently waited for the clouds to clear. Thankfully, around 12:30 am on October 4, the clouds broke up a bit and I was able to snap this picture. The Big Dipper was prominent in the sky, and the clouds filling the valley to the north made it feel like we were on the edge of the sea. Quite the experience! The camera used is a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX50V with ISO set to 1600, 3.5 aperture, and 15 second exposure.

  • Camera: DSC-HX50V
  • Focal: 4.3 mm
  • Shutter speed: 20 sec
  • Aperture: f/ 3.5
  • ISO: 1600
