On Christmas Eve Day in Pacific Rim National Park I visited Long Beach. It was a moody and foggy day, and groups of shorebirds, including these Dunlins, were gathered in groups, foraging in the sand. I knelt in the wet sand to get as low as I could for this shot, as I wanted the sand in the foreground. The moody west coast trees and rocks in the background completed the scene.
