40 year-old Transient orca matriarch, T90 (Eagle), surges towards an unlucky California sea lion. On this day, we had 3 different transient families come together for some quality socializing and hunting. While the two adult males in the group began to breach in celebration at the thought of food, the matriarchs gathered the juveniles together for a hunting lesson. Taking down a sea lion in open water isn't a difficult task for a group of 10+ orcas, but hunting practice with the youngsters tends to drag on, and in this case, lasted over an hour and a half.
