Northwest of Cochrane, Highway 40 offers an adventure into the Waiparous Valley area. Along this stretch of rough gravel live several herds of Alberta Wild Horses. One chilly cloudy morning, I was out on an adventure to photograph the “Wildies”. I was fortunate to see three herds on my adventure. As I drove down a backroad, something was moving in the woods. I jumped out of the car, made my way up the hill and deep in the woods spotted a small herd of horses. This herd was skittish and immediately the majority moved out of sight. This one, stood in the trees and we watched each other for a few moments. It was dark, making it difficult to photograph, but a moment of sunshine broke through the clouds and rays of light came streaming through the trees. One moment, one shot – but it was the one that brought this beauty into focus.
