The Khutzeymateen is a magical place in Canada. 25 years ago, it was the first area in Canada to be protected and has the highest concentration of grizzly bears in North America. We spent 4 days at the Khytz Wilderness Lodge, one of the 2 operators in the sanctuary. On our last afternoon, we were photographing a mom and cub on the shore. As we came around an island to get a closer look, we came across Doze, head down and sound asleep, with what seemed to be a smile on his face. The moment didn't last long. The tide was coming in, which cased him to stir. From his reaction, he was pretty surprised as he awoke noticing that he was now surrounded by water. It didn't seem to phase him for long, as he got up and starting munching on the sedge grass.
