A Northern Flicker and his Mate, after landing on a hydro pole started making sounds, standing up on their legs, moving their heads from side to side and then up and down, opposite to each other and finally staring at each other for a minute or more. Having never seen flickers go through their mating ritual, I would have to guess that this was part of it.
