Bears don't see well. Using a good amount of caution you can often be standing in the open a distance from them and although they may look straight at you, they don't know you're there, providing of course they haven't caught your scent or you don't move. If they look my way, I keep the camera in front of my face. They don't seem to be bothered by camera noise. Be careful of grouchy old males or females with cubs. If you don't feel comfortable, don't do it.

Nice portrait of the guy.. Glad it is in your backyard. Like them in photo, but even with all your precautions, I don't want to see one around.
