A trio of female mergansers are taking a leisurely swim up the Chown river near Masset, Haida Gwaii. Fifteen minutes before I saw them go downriver and they don't seem to be feeding. Maybe the males were delegated the task of sitting on the nest.

A beautiful capture of this lovely trio. The composition and colors are striking and very eye catching. I had the pleasure of photographing one female merganser on our dugout a few years ago and it was a very special moment for me because it's the only one I've ever seen on it. I think these birds are especially beautiful..
