This merganser surfaced from a dive with a black crappie twisting its serrated bill. It then paddled quickly away from another merganser who was swooping in to try to steal the fish. If a merganser emerges from a dive and immediately starts scooting and splashing across the surface, it very likely has a fish and that’s where I’ll point my lens. Shot wide open on a 400mm f/2.8 Nikkor lens at 1/2500 second, Wellington County, Ontario.

A very nice exposure, Aaron! The second bird tells a story.
