Frost flowers are a rare natural phenomena. The development of frost flowers occurs when there is large difference between surface and underlying temperatures on ice sea or lakes in windless conditions. Also, these “giant snowflakes” typically found on ice that has some imperfections that allow air to evaporate into the cold dry air (little bumps or small objects for instance). This image was taken on a frozen lake, showing these complex lacy deposits of crystals formed around a fallen twig.
