It was tough to get a shot of the bee in flight and was best to just wait until the it started to hover. Carpenter bees are quite large (but harmless) and have amazingly fast wingbeat. It was facing away from me when I took this shot at 1/5000 sec. Carpenter bees make their homes by burrowing into solid wood and are looking for new digs at this time of year.
