It’s become a yearly tradition to head to Abraham Lake on the first weekend of the new year for a skate and to check out the ice bubbles. These unique bubbles are caused by methane released from bacteria that feed on plant matter in the lake. Since the gas cannot escape because the lake frozen, the gas gets trapped and freezes into the lake. This causes the unique and beautiful patterns on the ice! It’s definitely a great natural form of art.
