I spotted this male mallard in an area just over from the blue-winged teal. I thought I was going to take a picture of him swimming amongst the weeds and just before I pressed the shutter he took off on me. I did not have the speed set fast enough but panned the camera slightly and got a not bad shot.

What a great action shot and with so much clarity and attention to detail. The panning worked well on this shot. So well done Debra.

Not a bad shot you say! I'd say your experience made that surprise shot an excellent frosen action shot. Heather said it all about the striking colors, the running legs and the trail of frosen water. I tried twice to do that shot last season with no success. I wish I will complete the assigment this year. I consider having the blue stipe shown in full length is a gift from Mother Nature.

Wow! You did a beautiful job of panning this shot Debra. I love how you can see his legs, the ripples and action on the water behind him with such clarity plus the colours are so beautiful. What a great capture.
