A seemingly juvenile American Bittern tries to blend in to the growth of reeds and grasses along the banks of the Tay River just outside of Perth, Ontario. Some would call this a fail at impersonating the reeds! In reality I think the grasses just haven't grown to the height that it needs to blend into that environment. The Bittern is a wading bird from the same family as Herons and are sometimes difficult to find living amongst the reeds of swamp or river banks. I think they're really an odd looking creature with eyes aside of their narrow heads. This is one taken from my kayak, LET the season begin! I love the challenge of shooting from the kayak, its really quite a lot of fun!
