The view from the porch of Halfway Lodge, much the same as it appeared to the 1920 guests of the iconic mountain guide Erling Strom, on their stopover to Mount Assiniboine. At one point early on during the railroad development this route was surveyed for a possible route through the Rockies to the next major hotel and town. However, it was decided that the railroad should follow the Bow River instead and this resulted in the future creation of Lake Louise. The valley here is ideal for wildlife, and has been spared a railway and highway, leaving room for Grizzly Bears and Elk to roam its meadows.
