People always ask...Where can I see the Aurora, what time are they out. Well when the conditions are just right you can pretty much see them anywhere north of the US border, on nights such as this you may even be able to see them from California. This was one of the most incredible aurora shows I have ever witnessed. This was the result of an earth directed CME (Coronal Mass Ejection) that launched 3 days earlier. Now with social media and many facebook groups posting about anticipated shows...the tough part of aurora chasing is finding spots that are not overridden with people. When there's lots of people, there's lots of head lamps, car headlights and flash photography which can really put a damper on the viewing experience. My storm chasingg partner and I were lucky enough to have ventured far enough away from civilization to have a viewing spot with zero people around. Braving -27 temps we were shooting from the moment we arrived and were still treated to a magnificent show on the drive back to Calgary.
