A Dunlin hangs out among a small group of Western Sandpipers as the day comes to an end. According to the Smithsonian, "the name "dunlin" comes from its winter plumage, a dull brown-gray colour often called dun. As far back as 1531, they were called “dunling,” which means “little brown one.”
