I walked into a pond and observed a Hooded Merganser with 9 chicks. Once I found a good spot to watch the ducklings frolicking, I realized they were Common Golden Eyes ducklings! The young male Merganser was attentive and watched over with the chicks as they foraged around the pond. I was there about 20 minutes and did not observe any other ducks on the pond. And those little ducklings responded to the mergansers guidance! Nature is amazing!
