The female Osprey is returning to the nest to protect the three juvenile Osprey after quite the chase on four intruding Osprey. I have no idea where they came from but they did mean business. The oldest juvenile looked like she was picking up some of her mother's instinct to protect the nest. None of the juveniles are flying yet but the oldest one will probably fledge the nest in a couple of days. The father did return with a half eaten fish and tried to lure the intruders away from the nest.

The story certainly adds to the photo. Great job on both.
Wow! this is an amazing shot Debra. So meaningful. You are talking protection and the wing of the mother fit so perfectly over the young to express that protection. This is what I call a gift from mother nature. There is a chance out of millions that an action shot willl result showing protection of the mother so perfectly. Great job Debra.
A wonderful capture of the mother returning to her nestlings, Debra. I love the detail you captured here and how the young one was trying to defend the nest too. It's kind of shocking to think she had to defend them from a group of osprey, as if raising them wasn't already tough enough. Hoping they can stay safe.
