I was out birding when I heard a strange coughing noise behind me some distance away. I had no idea what made the odd noise and I knew I was the only human around!! I quietly retraced my steps to see what was following me. Imagine my surprise ... and the Elk’s surprise when we spotted each other!! Not the bird I expected to find but I was thrilled to have this brief encounter!
