The large garter snake slowly slithered from the pile of rocks through a bush and into the crisp grass. I followed from shore hoping it would meander its way down onto the rocky beach. As I lost sight of it behind a tree stump I crouched to look through the twigs and grass, there staring at me, framed in was the snake. I was able to get slightly below to move in, with the eroded shore keeping my body hidden. The snake moved slightly and the sunlight, like a spot light, perfectly lit its eye. With surprisingly good eyesight I froze as if the reptile still had some passed down trait from a T-rex and couldn’t see me if I didn’t move. After a few moments of captivating intensity and beautiful imagery, the largest of the snakes on our property carried on and disappeared into the wall of prickly caragana.
