One morning I decided to go out searching for a Great Gray Owl that had been seen at this location a few days before. I made to sure to go at first light to increase my chances as much as possible. I had no luck at finding the GGO. Then I hear a gray squirrel making an alarm call. I go to investigate, but I see no predator in sight. I begin walking away to make one more scan of the white birches where the owl had been seen. I then catch something small out of the corner of my eye move. I spot a very tiny owl sitting on top of cut piece of cedar. This was an even better surprise as nobody had seen a Boreal Owl at this location since 2015. These are always the best finds!
