In the winter months around Niagara, it can get quite mundane for wildlife. You just have to take and ordinary species and capture something cool. Turkeys have fleshy protrusions on their faces called a snood (the flap that hangs over their beak) and caruncles (the bumpy skin around their neck). These can also change color, often turning a vivid red during mating displays. These color changes are used for communication and mating purposes. So next time you see a turkey, take a moment to appreciate the vibrant colors that they display!
