It is uncommon and not a widely documented behavior for coyotes to intentionally adopt orphaned pups from other coyote pairs, a coyote pair may adopt pups if the original parents die or become separated from their young. I was very fortunate to have observed this rare behaviour where an Eastern coyote cared for two orphaned pups in addition to three pups of her own. The age differences are clearly noticeable.
