This is Grizzly bear 168, feeding on a lush crop of buffaloberries along the roadside in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, Kananaskis Country. Thanks to the heavy rains this season, the region has produced a bumper crop of buffaloberries, a favourite seasonal food for bears. In fact, there are currently 17 blanket Bear Warnings in Kananaskis Country due to this abundance. I never imagined I would be able to photograph a grizzly this close, capturing headshots, all from the safety and comfort of my car. An unforgettable moment with one of the Rockies’ most powerful residents!
