The family of 4 ducklings came in from the stand still water of a bypass in the river(botom of photo). The mother wants the kids to climb to the main stream of the river (top of the photo). Through all the processing I heard no sound from the mother. Everyting is done under 1 rule : stay close to the mother. The mother split the climb into 3 steps. I started shooting when she was standing on the second step. She will let them find their own way to join her. Keep in mind that she is big and heavy enough to climb straight up. but the kids needs to avoid heavy droping currents.

You captured the kind of challenge that young wildlife are often forced to face and I'm happy to see that these four young ducklings fared so well. Great shots in this series of the rocky rapids and ducklings as they make their way through such a challenging situation. Very well photographed and narrated, Yves.
Oh they are small and those rocks are so big. I want to reach out and help them. Amazing story…well described. Awesome image Yves with so much texture and filled with emotion as the ducklings try to climb to their mother.
