Grizzlies and salmon are more than just neighbors in the wild, they depend on each other for survival. Each fall, salmon fight their way upstream on Tweedsmuir’s Atnarko river to spawn. For grizzlies, this epic journey is a lifeline, providing the protein and fat they need to survive harsh winters. But the connection doesn’t stop there. When bears drag salmon into the forest to feed, leftover nutrients fertilize the soil, strengthening trees and plants. In turn, healthier rivers and forests help sustain future salmon runs. It’s a powerful cycle of give-and-take that shows just how deeply connected nature really is.
