We saw an evening grosbeak in Algonquin Park, Ontario, in the winter, perched on a tree branch. With its powerful beak, it was repeatedly biting and tugging at a small tree branch, as if trying to break it. The bird’s bold yellow plumage and striking markings stood out beautifully against the quiet winter forest
