The aurora borealis is caused by solar wind (charged particles) interacting with Earth’s magnetic field, which funnels these particles toward the poles. As these electrons and protons collide with oxygen and nitrogen gases in the upper atmosphere, they become excited and release energy, creating dancing lights of green, pink, red, and violet.
