Pointing the beak up towards the sky (sky-pointing) is a bird behavior that males of some species use to intimidate other males. This behavior signals their desire to establish dominance, and therefore gain the attentions of a female. They just stand there and pose. No rough stuff or physical conflict!! When there is another male really close, the sky-pointing can be even more exaggerated than shown here, with the beak pointing close to straight up.
