The Eastern cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus) is an invasive species on Vancouver Island, having been introduced to the region in the 1960s. Since their initial release near Sooke, they have spread rapidly across the eastern side of the island and are now common from Victoria as far north as Campbell River.
