COMMON LOON. A sometime visitor to the lagoon, I was able to spot it on the far side and luckily it made it's way over to the ocean side of the lagoon. A bird that is hard to follow as it can travel a good distance paddling underwater in each of it's dives. The loon is also able to swim to a depth of 200 ft. It has nearly solid bones, making them heavier than many other birds and have eyes that focus both in air and under water. Colwood, Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
