I was walking along the trail one late afternoon when a squirrel in a tree next to me started to squeal in alarm. I began scanning the neighbouring trees. As I turned around on the path, opposite from me was the Great Horned Owlet staring quietly right back at me. This young GHO had gone from fluffy fledgling to full teenager plumage and new found independence in about 2 weeks since I had last spotted it. They grow up so fast!
