It was a year ago when this beautiful Great Gray Owl put in an appearance in southern Essex County, near Kingsville. It remained for about three weeks, spending most of its time along the roadside and giving anyone who cared to visit, some fantastic views. This photo was taken in the late afternoon when the receding sunlight gave the bird a wonderful glow and with very few shadows. It was taken at only 220mm, indicating how incredibly cooperative the bird was, in spite of the hundreds of people who came to enjoy it.

I do remember the time of this birds appearance, Allen; Just couldn't convince my wife to go for a 'little' road trip! A marvelous capture with this image and thanks for sharing as always.
beautiful one! lucky you!
Wonderful photo Allen and well worth the drive to see a Great Grey Owl in the wild.
Fantastic shot Allen......what a beautiful bird.
Thank-you Chazz, Monica, Tim and Holly....your comments are very much appreciated! This bird caused quite a stir in the media during its visit....you may have heard about it at the time. It was definitely a highlight to see this GGOW so close....normally even in winter they don't come within several hundred kilometres of extreme southern Ontario. People came from as far away as New Jersey as well as several closer states, to see this bird.
Great shot Allen!!
