Assemble the Hive Bodies The hive bodies are the boxes that will house the bees and their honeycomb. Langstroth-style beehives typically consist of two deep hive bodies and one or two medium hive bodies, depending on the size of the colony. Start by assembling the deep hive bodies. Begin by nailing or screwing the sides of the deep hive body to the front and back panels. Then, assemble beehive the bottom board to the deep hive body. Repeat the process for the second deep hive body. If your hive kit includes one or more medium hive bodies, repeat the same process as above for each medium hive body. Step 3: Install the Frames Once your hive bodies are assembled, it's time to install the frames. Frames are wooden structures that hold the honeycomb in place. Langstroth-style beehives typically use frames that are 19 inches long and 1 3/8 inches wide. Start by inserting the frames into the deep hive bodies. Each deep hive body should hold 10 frames. For medium hive bodies, each should hold 8 frames. Be sure to space the frames evenly and leave enough room between each frame for bees to move around comfortably.
