Patiently waiting on the dykes of Delta, British Columbia, paid off when this striking Short-eared Owl swept directly toward my lens. Known for its crepuscular hunting habits, this majestic raptor was masterfully quartering the tall grass. Keeping a low profile on foot allowed me to freeze this precise moment of intense eye contact as the owl hovered over the coastal salt marshes, utilizing its hyper-sensitive hearing to track down wintering voles below.
