Staring contest!

I was paddling along the shoreline when I spotted this great blue heron flying across the lake towards me. I was expecting this beautiful bird to see me and fly away but to my surprise it flew right over my head landing in the tall cattails. I slowly turned my kayak around all the while keeping my eye on the heron. I stopped paddling, took my camera out of a dry bag and began taking photos. I was thrilled when the heron began moving closer to me!! At one point it stopped and we had a brief staring contest that I won because the heron decided looking for food was more important than looking at me.
